In the 10am-1pm session, learn to assess your home on its energy efficiency and carbon impact with Andy Walker of SURE insulation. The climate emergency, recently declared by an increasing number of cities including York, demands that we radically reduce the amount of energy used in British homes. In this practical workshop you will learn how to look at each room of your house with new eyes to see where you are losing most heat, and thus also money on energy bills. By the end you will be able to do a basic assessment of your home and start a whole house plan for how to improve it.

The afternoon session 1:30-3:30pm is aimed at those who would like to become trainee home assessors. York Community Energy is establishing a pool of volunteers willing to learn how to assess houses and talk to their occupiers so that a low-cost service can be offered to those who can’t do their own assessment. To cut York’s carbon footprint we need to encourage as many people as possible to insulate their homes so we are looking for local champions who can help other people make a start. If interested in finding out more, you will need to attend the morning session too and will be given lunch at 1pm.

Entry: £20/£15 concession (a home-specific professional assessment costs anywhere between £100-£500)
