Climate change and environmental damage are impacting many of the things we love and cherish. Woodlands that used to echo with birdsong are silent. We’re generating mountains of plastic and food waste. The air in our cities is dangerous to breathe, oceans are polluted and weather patterns are becoming more unpredictable with the changing climate.

At a time where our politicians feel they don’t hear from their constituents anywhere near enough about climate change and the environment, we need to come together to send a clear message that this is not the legacy that we want to leave for our children and grandchildren. By bringing together the environment movement, development groups, doctors, sports, youth organisations, scientists and many others in one big show of strength - we can highlight that The Time Is Now for our politicians to prevent the worst impacts of climate change and environmental degradation.

Why now?

In 2019 our politicians will face a historic opportunity to take some crucial decisions for the environment. Summer will see the government deliberating over whether they should commit to ending the UK’s contribution to climate change through a net zero emissions target. Simultaneously they will have a chance to put an end to natures decline as the Environment Bill begins it’s passage through the commons. We urgently need to build backbench support to create pressure for bold action. This means we need to:
● Enable as many direct conversations with politicians as possible - with constituents, experts and interest groups.
● Demonstrate a sense of energy and groundswell of momentum backing action.
● Show that this isn’t just a concern of green groups, there is a diverse array of people from all walks of life that care about climate change and the environment.

What are we doing?

On June 26th, thousands of us from every corner of the UK will take our message straight to Westminster in what we hope will be the largest mass lobby for the environment and climate the UK has ever seen. We are planning to join coalition forces and bring as many people from across the country face to face with their MPs to ask them to deliver the changes we need to see.

We’re envisioning a programme of activity that draws on the strength of our diversity, building towards a mass lobby of Westminster on June 26th, with satellite activity to increase visibility and political impact.

Organisations involved

The mass lobby is being coordinated by The Climate Coalition and Greener UK, alliances that represent a support base of over 15 million people. Members include WWF, CAFOD, Christian Aid, RSPB, The Women’s Institute, Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, The Wildlife Trusts, NUS, Tearfund, CPRE, Marine Conservation Society and many more.
